The minister for home affairs, Rui Pereira, will travel to Brussels, to the European Parliament, next Wednesday, 17 December, where he will present to the MPs for the Commission on Liberty, Security and Justice the balance of the Portuguese presidency in the area of internal affairs.
At the end of the afternoon, the minister for home affairs and the vice-president of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, will start the work session of the 4th meeting of the Future Group in the area of Internal Affairs, which will last until the following day.
During this meeting two themes will be discussed: civil protection, balance and mobility, privacy and security, from the viewpoint of new technologies.
The Future Group met for the first time in Eltville, Hesse, under the German presidency in May 2007 and is composed of vice-president Frattini and the six interior ministers from the two trios of presidencies, including Portugal. This High Level Group aims at giving an incentive to an intensive reflexion on the future of European interior policy for the construction of a safer Europe.
