Portuguese EU Presidency portal with enhanced accessibility for citizens with special needs

One of the leading innovations of the portal for the Portuguese Presidency of the EU lies in the fact that it offers the latest technology making its content accessible to visitors with special needs.

The portal has been carefully structured with accessibility in mind, to enable these users, and in particular the visually impaired, to get the maximum benefit from its screen-reading technology.

This is the first time that an EU Presidency portal has offered a special function enabling users to listen to the text in the three languages (Portuguese, English and French).

This initiative forms part of the Portuguese government’s implementation of the “National Initiative for citizens with special needs”. The initiative aims to ensure that those citizens can access and search the information put on line by the public administration. We hope that it will benefit users throughout Europe.
