The Transports, Telecommunications and Energy Council convenes every two months, with the presence of Ministers responsible for these portfolios. During the Portuguese Presidency, the Council is presided by the Ministers of Public Works, Transports and Communications, Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Economy.
In transport, the priority will be to contribute to the improvement of global performance of the sector, through the promotion of sustainable mobility, the enhancement of intermodal transport, the deepening of the internal market, of innovation and technological development and safety.
In telecommunications and postal services, following the Lisbon Strategy, the Portuguese Presidency seeks to establish the best possible conditions for the development of the electronic communications market and the postal services market, taking competitiveness and employment into consideration.
The main themes for the Information Society will be Digital Inclusion (eInclusion), electronic Government (eGov) and Research and Development (R&D).
For energy, the priorities will be in line with the energy and environmental policy set out in the Action Plan 2007-2009, developing the internal market in energy, renewable energies, energy technologies (SET-PLAN) and the external dimension of energy with the aim of improving security of supply, enhancing competitiveness and promoting sustainability.
